What Are Foot Fillers?

Foot fillers are non-surgical treatments that involve injecting dermal fillers into specific areas of the feet. Dr. Curson typically uses products with hyaluronic acid to add volume and padding. Foot fillers can be injected into different areas, including the ball of the foot, heels, and other pressure points. The procedure is performed comfortably in our office and usually takes 15 to 30 minutes.

When Are Foot Fillers Necessary?

Foot fillers are necessary when pressure needs to be redistributed across the foot. They can help patients with volume loss or deformities. Foot fillers benefit people experiencing discomfort while walking or standing for long periods and provide crucial support for those with diabetes- or age-related foot problems. Patients usually experience some of these issues:

Heel Pain
Heel pain often occurs due to insufficient cushioning in the heel area, particularly in individuals who spend long hours standing, walking, or engaging in high-impact activities. The fat pad under the heel may thin over time, reducing its natural shock-absorbing ability and resulting in persistent soreness. Foot fillers restore lost volume, enhance cushioning, and redistribute pressure more evenly, helping to reduce pain and improve comfort during everyday activities.
Plantar fasciitis is characterized by inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. It often causes sharp, stabbing pain in the heel, especially after periods of rest or prolonged activity. Foot fillers can help by providing extra arch support and offloading pressure from the affected area. They also promote better weight distribution, which may reduce inflammation and facilitate recovery.
Metatarsalgia refers to pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot, typically caused by excessive pressure on the metatarsal bones. High-impact activities, ill-fitting shoes, or age-related fat pad loss can contribute to this condition. Foot fillers add volume and cushioning beneath the forefoot, reducing stress on the metatarsal heads, alleviating discomfort, and restoring a more balanced foot structure to enhance mobility.
Corns and calluses develop when persistent friction or pressure causes the skin to thicken and harden, often over bony prominences. These affected areas may become painful, particularly when the tension continues without intervention. Foot fillers can help by evening out irregular pressure points, minimizing friction, and softening the skin’s surface, which might reduce the recurrence of corns and calluses over time.
Hammertoes occur when toe joints become abnormally bent due to muscle imbalances. This condition leads to stiffness, pain, and friction against footwear. Corns can form on the bent toes, leading to discomfort during walking. Foot fillers offer cushioning to the affected areas, relieving pressure on the joints, preventing skin irritation, and improving overall comfort for individuals with hammertoe deformities.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The results of foot filler treatments can last up to a year, depending on lifestyle, activity levels, and how the body naturally breaks down the filler. To achieve the best outcomes while minimizing swelling, we take a conservative approach by slightly under-treating the area during the initial session. This careful technique helps the feet adjust to the filler and allows us to evaluate the outcome before proceeding with additional procedures.

If more volume or cushioning is desired, follow-up injections can be scheduled after a waiting period of 2 to 4 weeks. We must give the tissue time to settle and ensure that adjustments are safe and effective. Since Dr. Curson uses temporary fillers rather than permanent materials, maintenance sessions will be needed to preserve the results over time. Regular touch-ups help maintain optimal foot comfort and support in the months and years ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are foot fillers painful?

The procedure is carried out under local anesthetic, so there is no pain during the treatment. Some swelling is common for a short period after filler injections. You must gently massage and ice the area for five days. This will help distribute the material more evenly over the treated zones.

Will I be able to feel an improvement immediately?

No, you should notice gradual results after treatment over the next few weeks. Dr. Curson checks the outcomes at a follow-up appointment. If more padding is required, he can perform an additional injection.

Are there any side effects of treatment?

The most common side effects are bleeding, tenderness or pain, redness, bruising, or swelling. These issues generally last only a few days. Dr. Curson always under-treats the area to minimize the swelling.

Sprained Ankle
There are doctors who talk and those who help you walk again pain free. Doctor Curson is among the latter breed. I limped in with a sprained ankle approaching the size of a grapefruit and in pain. An hour later, I was walking normally having had X-rays, a shot, and a laser treatment. If you are in the Bal Harbour, Surfside or Bay Harbor area, don't bother with anyone else. The entire staff is efficient and dedicated. He followed up with me as well. Caroljean Kier

Laser treatment for ankle sprain
Amazing doctor and amazing staff, very friendly and they take the time to know your history and seek the best treatment possible for your specific case. I decided to give them my full confidence for a chronic ankle sprain that just wouldn't go away. The laser treatment was really helpful and they did a set of custom orthotics that are really much better than the off-the-shelf stuff and others I had made before.
